Does Your Business Have Passion?

Electric violinist
Passion for business

On a recent visit to Asheville, NC, I had the pleasure of watching an electric violinist. I stood by, along with a crowd of others as this gentleman passionately played, jumped In the air and amused all of those around him. I must have stayed there for at least 25 minutes, captivated by not only the music but by the pure level of energy and enthusiasm this gentleman poured into his performance. It was a moment that became entrenched in my mind and I have watched the video I took of his performance several times since.

Watching this musician perform on the street and do what he does so emphatically was amazing. Children danced and adults gazed. It wasn’t just that his music was good — It had an impact.

I enjoyed listening to his music at that moment and have thereafter (I purchased his CD), but more than that I enjoy watching the video. There’s something about his performance that continues to move me and I can sum it up in one word: Passion. This man loves what he does. And when you love what you do, people know, sense and want to be a part of it.

A similar scenario comes to mind when I think of the work I’ve been doing in rural South Georgia. There’s a personal chef that has catered many of the activities surrounding this project. Every time I go to South Georgia and experience one of her meals, I want to come back home and create it. For me to even consider creating a meal is pretty spectacular, at least in my mind. But that’s what happens, every time. And it’s not just the way that the food tastes and looks on the table, but it’s the way that she talks about the food, how it’s prepared, why it’s healthy and the ways you can make and use the same dish at home. Again. Passion.

What is it about Passion? An article published by Psychology Today entitled The Power of Passion speaks to passion as the driver for high-achievers and the fuel for growth. So if that’s the case, we all need a healthy dose of it.

Every entrepreneur should have a passion for their business and what they do. It doesn’t matter whether you’re selling music, professional services, or widgets because passion is contagious and people want to be a part of it.

Passion helps you create memorable experiences. And when you do that, not only will people remember you, they will gravitate towards you, want to buy from you and want to tell others about you.
