Emulating Mark Zuckerberg’s Facebook Strategies

He’s at it again! Mark Zuckerberg, that is. He’s changing the way Facebook does what it does, again —- and everybody’s talking about it.

Apparently Mark’s personal goal for 2018 is to fix Facebook’s problems which includes (according to articles) “abuse and hate, defending against interference by nation states, and making sure that time spent on Facebook is time well spent.” This is being done to “boost the well-being of the billions of people who use the social network by encouraging users to have more conversations and connections with peers, rather than being bombarded by brands”, according to an article on CNN Tech.

That’s all fine and well as Facebook has been doing exactly what it wants to do for a while now. But in the midst of it all I found three things Mark’s said to be doing or has done that you can emulate as a small business owner.

1. Listening Tour– Mark is said to be traveling all over the country on a listening tour. That’s awesome because listening is super powerful and most of us don’t do enough of it. Listening to your customers, clients, patients or whoever you serve is a great way to connect and learn.

2. Revised Mission Statement – Revisiting and revising your mission statement to make sure you are aligned with your vision and the people you serve is a must. Take a look at the previous versus the revised and see what you think. I love it! With just some slight modifications it went from a so-so mission to a really purposeful one. It may be time for you to revisit your mission.

New mission statement: “To give people the power to build community and bring the world closer together.”

Previous mission statement: “To give people the power to share and make the world more open and connected.”

3. Preventing abuse of the platformYippee and hooray for this. Technology is a beast and it can be tricky to manage a platform the size of Facebook, but it has to be done. Making sure that Facebook user’s feel a sense of trust and security in this social space is worth whatever profits its projected Facebook will lose to carry this out.  There’s a reason they say people do business with those they like, know and trust. Make sure your business is maintaining its standards and that your clients and customers feel comfortable doing business with you.

There you have it — straightforward, simple strategies you can copy from a billionaire!
